Explore the Tasmanian wilderness world heritage area with day trip to Mount Field National Park. With short walks in both the lowland tall trees/waterfalls and the glacial alpine region. 

Experience the dramatic Tasman Peninsula with walks to Cape Raoul / Shipstern Bluff Lookouts and the stunning Crescent Bay.

Mt Field National Park is one of Tasmania's most loved national parks. The park has a wide variety of scenic features and wildlife and offers a great range of facilities for day visitors. Few other national parks in Australia offer such a diversity in vegetation, ranging from tall swamp gum forests and massive tree ferns at the base of the mountain, through rainforest along the Lake Dobson Road, to alpine vegetation at the higher elevations.

  • Departs Hobart Travel and Information Centre - 8:30am (20 Davey Street)
  • Drive along the Derwent River and learn the history of this rich agricultural region. 
  • Enjoy morning tea with plunger coffee/herbal tea and fruit
  • Arriving at the Mount Field National Park, we drive the rustic roadway to the Mount Field ski fields. 
  • First off, we wander the alpine shores of Lake Dobson, continuing on a 2hr return trail to view Lake Seal from the Mawson Plateau. Returning via the Pencil Pines of the Pandani Grove Walk. - this 6km return trail involves some short, but steep uphill sections with some loose rocks. 
  • We enjoy lunch in a mountain shelter overlooking the Broad River Valley. 
  • For the afternoon we visit the iconic Tall Trees and Russell Falls before hitting the road home.
  • This 1hr trail takes us under huge tree ferns and giant eucalyptus forests, some of the tallest trees on earth!
  • We aim to be back in Hobart at 5:30PM with complimentary accommodation drop-offs.  


Walking time: 3-4 hours | Walking distance: 10KM 

Terrain; Sub-alpine, mixed forest, rain forest, ski fields. 

Track Rating: 3 - Some steep sections, loose rocks, exposed, partly board walked with signed tracks.

Tasman National Park

Departing Hobart at 8:30am, enjoy a scenic one-hour trip down to the Tasman Peninsula, passing by seaside towns and farming country. Arrive to the Tasman National Park, with morning tea at the iconic Tasman Arch. 

View the map for the days walks and enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee overlooking the rugged coastline and beyond to the Tasman Sea. Wander a few minutes beyond the arch to view the Devils Kitchen, another of the peninsula's geological wonders.

First Guided Walk: Crescent Beach / Lookout. The trail begins at the impressive Remarkable Cave. Following a newly constructed path, the trail is a 7km return walk. Concluding at one of Tasmania's most picturesque beaches. 

Second Guided Walk: Ship Stern Bluff/Cape Raoul Lookouts. An incredible 1.5hr walk that begins with a pretty forest, rich with birdlife and native flowers. Concluding high above the ocean, with stunning views down to the world renowned surf break. A further 20 minute walk takes us up to the Cape Raoul lookout, one of Tasmania's most spectacular views. 

Walking time: 4-5 hours | Walking distance: 15KM
